We Never Stopped Believing in the Breath

Some things don’t need to be reinvented. They just need to be rediscovered.

Expand-A-Lung has been here since 2004. Built on a simple, unshakeable belief: that breath is the most undertrained, most undervalued, highest-return investment in human performance and that everyone deserves access to the tools to train it.

That belief hasn’t changed. Not once. Not even a little.

But the world has. And we’ve been paying attention.

Where It Started

In 2004, Jorge Brouwer looked at the athletic world and saw a gap that nobody was talking about. Athletes were training everything their strength, their speed, their stamina, their mental game. They were obsessing over marginal gains in every direction.

Except one.

Nobody was training the breath. Not the muscles behind it. Not the respiratory system that quietly powers every single thing a body does under load. It was the most fundamental system in human performance, and it was being left entirely on the table.

Jorge drew from lessons learned in the diving world a community that had understood breath as a trainable skill long before mainstream sport caught up and built something that hadn’t existed before. A compact, 4-inch device that puts your respiratory muscles under progressive resistance. A 100% drug-free tool that makes every breath a rep.

That was Expand-A-Lung. That is Expand-A-Lung.

What We Saw Along the Way

Twenty years is a long time to watch a space evolve. And what we’ve seen since 2004 is a world that has slowly, steadily started waking up to what Jorge understood from the beginning.

Breathwork entered the mainstream. Athletes began talking about respiratory training. The science caught up study after study confirming what the diving world had known for decades: train the breath, raise the ceiling on everything else.

The conversation finally started. But we noticed something else, too.

Amidst all the noise the trends, the gadgets, the wellness overcrowding the core truth kept getting buried. Breath training was being packaged as meditation. As relaxation. As recovery-only work for people who already had everything else figured out.

That was never the point.

Breath is performance. Respiratory strength is an athletic quality. And the people who needed to hear that most the active, the ambitious, the ones who show up every week and push were still being underserved.

The Same Mission. Sharper Focus.

So here we are. Revamped. Refined. Back in front of the people who need this most.

Not because the mission changed. But because the mission matters more now than ever.

The world is full of performance tools promising transformation. Most of them are noise. Expand-A-Lung has never been noise. It’s a device built on a physiological truth that doesn’t expire: when your respiratory muscles are stronger, everything built on top of them gets stronger too.

We’re not here to be trendy. We’re not here to ride a wellness wave. We’re here because Jorge saw something real in 2004, built something real, and that something real has been quietly changing the way people breathe and perform for over two decades.

Now we want more people to know about it.

For You, Right Now

If you found Expand-A-Lung today welcome. You’re here at exactly the right moment.

Whether you’re a runner chasing a PR, a lifter wanting more in the tank, someone who just started taking their fitness seriously, or an athlete who has tried everything else and still feels like something’s missing this is for you.

The breath has always been your secret weapon. You just haven’t had the right tool to train it.

That’s what we built. That’s what we’ve always been building.

The mission hasn’t changed. The commitment hasn’t changed. What’s changed is that we’re louder about it now and we’re not stopping until every person who trains knows that the breath is trainable, that it matters, and that there’s a device in their corner designed specifically to build it.

Twenty years in. Just getting started.
